Holy Wars

The war was waged when I was young;
The battle lines were drawn.
Yet neither side admits defeat
Nor sings a victory song.

So every generation hence
Must sound the battle cry;
And claiming God as ally, both
Sides raise their banners high.

But when the dust has settled and
We pause to look around,
I fear that there among the dead
Christ's body will be found.
