Emily Conn is the main character in this book. She is seven years old, and dreads going to school. Her older sister, Laura, enjoys to study for classes, and wants to get an education. She soon has to face challenges when her family moves from her beloved Mare Creek, and her older twin sisters get married, and move away. Emily struggles on trying to stay out of trouble at her new, larger school. Through this, Emily learns that life can be good even in a changing world.

What is the general theme of the book?

The Melting Pot is a series, about the Conn family of seven, and the challenges families would face at that time.

Evaluation: What were the things you especially liked or disliked about the book?

When I began to read this book, it was hard to put it down.

I would recommend this book, because it had a very fun story about life in the 1950s.
